Sintered Refractories / Application Journey
Magnesia Carbon Brick
Product overview & material composition
Magnesia carbon bricks are a kind of refractory material consisting mainly of graphite and magnesia, the composition usually ranging from 10 to 20 percent carbon. Fused magnesia and flake graphite are key raw materials which are often reinforced with binders such as phenolic resin or high-temperature pitch. These bricks possess excellent thermal shock stability and thermal conductivity, together with outstanding resistance to slag erosion and penetration because of their low apparent porosity. The main areas of application are ladle refining furnaces, high-power and ultra-high-power electric arc furnaces, oxygen steelmaking converters, and ladle linings.

Select the right grade
Select the right grade of magnesium carbon bricks
To choose the appropriate grade of magnesia carbon bricks it is necessary to take into account the type of furnace, the position of the lining, the conditions of the slag, the operating temperature, and the service requirements. The chemical composition and physical properties should be assessed in conjunction with the actual operating conditions in order to determine a suitable grade.
Compare Carbon Content and MgO Content
Magnesia carbon bricks are offered in three grades, namely MT 10A, MT 14A, and MT 18A, the various grades differing in the specified minimum amounts of carbon and MgO.
MT 10A
≥80% MgO≥10% CarbonMT 14A
≥76% MgO≥14% CarbonMT 18A
≥72% MgO≥18% Carbon| Grade | MgO Content | Carbon Content |
|---|---|---|
| MT 10A | ≥80% | ≥10% |
| MT 14A | ≥76% | ≥14% |
| MT 18A | ≥72% | ≥18% |
The various grades offer different compositions depending on the refractory requirements in question. Yet a higher carbon content does not necessarily indicate better overall performance; the right grade will depend on the balance between slag resistance, oxidation resistance, thermal shock resistance, and other operating requirements.
Consider the Operating Conditions
When choosing a grade, you should assess the lining position, the slag’s chemistry, variations in temperature, the oxidation conditions, and the mechanical stress. Since different sections of the furnace may need different combinations of refractory properties.
When comparing the various grades, bulk density, apparent porosity, and strength should also be taken into account. Together with chemical composition and manufacturing quality, these properties aid in assessing whether a product satisfies the requirements of a given application.

Packaging, delivery & technical support

Packaging and Delivery
The Magnesia carbon bricks are packed for transport and handling in accordance with the product specifications and the requirements for shipment. The packaging arrangements can be negotiated taking into account the dimensions of the bricks, the quantity ordered, the destination and the method of transportation.
Before it is shipped, buyers should check the product grade, the dimensions, the quantity, the packaging details and the shipping documents required in order to make sure that the order satisfies their project requirements.
Technical Support
When selecting the appropriate magnesia carbon brick it is necessary to go beyond simply comparing its chemical composition and physical properties since the type of furnace, the position of the lining, the conditions of the slag, the operating temperature, and the extent of oxidation exposure must also be taken into account.
Our technical team will be able to look over your application requirements and the product specifications currently available in order to help you choose an appropriate grade from among MT 10A, MT 14A, and MT 18A.
To get a product recommendation or quote, please tell us the grade you need, brick size, estimated amount, how you plan to use the product, and where to deliver it. This information helps us review your needs and prepare a better proposal.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about mgo c brick bricks
1. What are magnesia carbon bricks used for?
Magnesia carbon bricks are basic refractory materials containing carbon and are generally used in various types of steelmaking equipment, such as electric arc furnaces, basic oxygen furnaces, and steel ladles. The appropriate use of these bricks depends on the particular position of the lining, the operating conditions, and the grade of the product.
2. How does MT 10A differ from MT 14A and MT 18A?
The three grades vary according to the minimum amounts of MgO and carbon specified. MT 10A has a minimum MgO content of 80% and a minimum carbon content of 10%; MT 14A has minimum contents of 76% MgO and 14% carbon; MT 18A has minimum contents of 72% MgO and 18% carbon.
The grade that should be chosen should be based on the required refractory properties and the actual operating conditions, not just on the carbon content.
3. What should I do to select the correct grade of magnesia carbon bricks?
You should take into account the type of furnace, the position of the lining, the slag chemistry, the operating temperature, the temperature fluctuations, and the oxidation conditions. The chemical composition, bulk density, apparent porosity, and strength of each grade must also be examined. If you provide us with details regarding your present refractory material and operating conditions, our technical team will be able to recommend an appropriate solution.
4. Can magnesia carbon bricks be obtained in sizes that are custom?
You should check with the manufacturer to confirm the available sizes and any customisation options based on their production capabilities. If you are asking for a quote, then give them your required dimensions, any drawings you may have, the grade you need, and an estimated quantity so that they can review the specifications.
5. What information is required in order to obtain a quotation?
Could you please give us the grade, the dimensions of the bricks, the quantity you want to order, the type of application or furnace, and the place to which you want delivery? If you have them, also include your technical specification or the chemical composition of the refractory bricks that you currently have. Having this information enables us to assess your requirements and prepare a more accurate quotation.
6. What is the method of packing magnesia carbon bricks for export?
The packaging can be determined by the product’s dimensions, the quantity of the order, the method of transportation, and the destination. It is necessary to check the packaging specifications and the shipping documents required with the supplier before shipping so that the arrangements satisfy your handling and delivery needs.
