What is Fused cast corundum brick?

The fused cast corundum brick is a refractory product widely used in glass furnaces and other industrial kilns. The refractory brick is made of high-purity alumina as the main material, which is completely melted at a high temperature (above 2000 °C) in an arc furnace and then cast into shaped bricks through specially designed molds.

The main component of an electrofused corundum brick is alumina, not zirconium. Therefore, it has almost no pollution to the glass matrix and is widely used in various parts of glass furnaces.

Classification of fused cast corundum brick

The electrofused corundum series is divided into three types based on the structure and quantity of alumina crystals.

The first type is mainly composed of α-Al2O3 and is called fused α-type corundum brick.

The second type is mainly composed of α-Al2O3 and β-Al2O3 crystal phases. The content is 1:1, but the α phase is slightly higher. It is called fused α-β corundum brick.

The third type is mainly composed of the β-Al2O3 crystal phase and is called fused β-type corundum brick.

The α-β type corundum series has dense crystals and excellent corrosion resistance to glass liquids with temperatures below 1350 degrees.

The electroformed α-type alumina series has a dense structure and excellent chemical stability, and its corrosion resistance to various slags is better than other silicate alumina products.

The electroformed β-type corundum series has excellent resistance to thermal shock and alkali attack and is often used in the second half of oxyfuel furnaces (relatively low-temperature range).
