Castable

Castable refractory is an important type of monolithic refractory made of refractory aggregate, binder, and additives. Water or another liquid binder is added when it is used. The difference between castables and mortar, or other unshaped refractory products, is that certain settings and hardening times are needed when applying the castables. Castables are mainly used for the lining of high-temperature industrial furnaces because they can endure high temperatures, high pressure, chemical corrosion, etc., in harsh environments due to their properties such as high shock resistance, good resistance to wear, corrosion, and chemical impact.

Application of castables

Castable refractories are widely used in high-temperature equipment in metallurgy, glass, chemical industry, electric power, and other industries, such as blast furnaces, kilns, furnaces, heat treatment furnaces, etc. It can withstand extremely high temperatures and has good thermal shock and chemical resistance, protecting equipment from high temperatures, chemical corrosion, and mechanical wear.

Characteristics of castables

The main feature of refractory castables is their strong plasticity. They can be constructed by pouring, spraying, or smearing to adapt to equipment surfaces of different shapes and sizes. It can harden and cure after application to form a strong, fire-resistant layer that provides protection and insulation.

The casting methods of cast refractory

Cast refractories derived from different materials have different applications, and the construction methods are varied accordingly. Below are some examples of the casting methods of castables.

1. Add water and pour directly into the overall lining, such as high-aluminum castables and low-cement castables. Mold support is required.

2. Depending on the complexity of the pouring parts, self-flow molding can be used for parts that cannot be constructed by pouring. Commonly used low-cement self-flow castables do not require mold support.

3. Using the smearing method for construction, no kiln mold is needed, and a thin lining is applied, which saves time and effort. Such as refractory coating.

4. Use the ramming method for construction, fill the material into the furnace shell, and use ramming tools to vibrate vigorously to obtain a strong density, which can be directly put into production to form a ceramic structure at high temperatures.

5. If the gunning method is used for construction, it is necessary to use spraying equipment to directly spray the mixed materials onto the construction site.

6. Inject materials directly into the parts to be constructed, also known as refractory injection materials, such as foam mud for blast furnace tapholes.

7. Prefabricated parts are poured directly at the manufacturer and constructed at the construction site. They are called castable prefabricated parts or refractory prefabricated parts.
